Las Vegas Sands Raises Dividend 20% Despite a Q3 Earnings Miss Tied to Macau

Las Vegas Sands shares fell in after-hours trading this week after the casino giant's third-quarter 2026 results came in below Wall Street's expectations, even as the company announced a 20% increase to its dividend for 2027. The split outcome — a weaker-than-expected quarter paired with a bigger payout to shareholders — centered on a sharp net-income decline at the company's core Macau operations.

The numbers

For the July-through-September period, Sands posted consolidated revenue of $3.22 billion and earnings per share of 54 cents, missing analyst expectations of 68 cents per share on revenue of $3.33 billion. Sands China, which operates five integrated resorts in Macau, saw revenue edge up just 1.4% to $1.93 billion, but net income there dropped 29.8% year over year to $191 million. Marina Bay Sands in Singapore also softened: revenue fell to $1.29 billion from $1.43 billion a year earlier, and adjusted EBITDA dropped to $590 million from $743 million. The company ended the quarter with $2.86 billion in unrestricted cash and repurchased $950 million of its own shares during the period; since restarting its buyback program three years ago, Sands has cut its share count by 19%.

The dividend hike

Despite the miss, Sands said its 2027 dividend will rise to $1.44 per share annually, or 36 cents quarterly — up 20% from the current level and the third straight increase since the payout was reinstated in July 2023. The quarterly rate has now climbed 80% since that restoration. Chairman and CEO Patrick Dumont framed the results as reflecting momentum beneath the headline miss, saying of Macau: "We are encouraged by our progress in Macau during the quarter, with our ongoing investments in enhanced service and hospitality offerings contributing to growth in volumes across all gaming segments as compared to the prior year." On Singapore, he added: "We remain enthusiastic about our growth prospects in Singapore both today and upon the completion of our ongoing expansion project, which will meaningfully increase our suite capacity and entertainment offerings, including through the introduction of an arena designed to be the most important entertainment venue in the region."

Why it matters

Sands stock is down more than 40% year-to-date, a decline the company's results this week did little to reverse, and the report underscores how much the stock's fortunes remain tied to Macau's recovery pace rather than to Sands' own U.S. or Singapore operations alone. The bigger dividend despite the miss signals that management is betting on steady long-term cash flow from its Asia properties even as near-term Macau results wobble — a dynamic worth watching for anyone tracking the broader health of the commercial casino sector, which has broadly struggled on Wall Street alongside Sands this year.
