DraftKings' Prediction Market Could Generate $57M in Fees This NFL Season
DraftKings' in-house prediction market exchange, DKeX, is on pace to generate roughly $57 million in exchange fees over the full 2026 NFL season, according to a Jefferies analyst note published this week that extrapolated from opening-weekend trading volume. The projection is one of the first concrete revenue estimates for a sportsbook operator's prediction market business since DKeX launched in late June.
What the analysis found
Jefferies analyst David Katz based the projection on DKeX's first two NFL Week 1 games — Patriots-Seahawks and 49ers-Rams — which together generated about $106,000 in market maker fees for DraftKings. Katz's note, published September 11, called the Patriots-Seahawks session the 10th-highest volume day on record for prediction markets, and said the first full NFL Sunday of the season was positioned to be one of the largest single trading days prediction markets have seen. Combined contract volume on DKeX and a comparable exchange, Nadex, reached roughly $42 million and $16 million respectively across those two games alone.
Why it matters to bettors
DKeX lets users trade event contracts on NFL outcomes rather than placing a traditional fixed-odds wager, a structure that has drawn scrutiny from state gaming regulators in several states even as operators like DraftKings build it out as a parallel product line alongside their licensed sportsbook. The Jefferies projection is notable less for the dollar figure itself and more for what it signals: early NFL-season volume suggests real, growing demand for the exchange format, which could shape how aggressively DraftKings and competitors invest in prediction markets as the broader legal fight over whether they require state gambling licenses continues to play out across the country this season.
