Detroit Casinos Report $103.55M in September Revenue as MotorCity Outgrows Its Rivals
Detroit's three commercial casinos — MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown — reported combined aggregate gross revenue of $103.55 million for September 2026, according to a Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) release dated October 13. Table games and slots accounted for $102.78 million of that total, up 4.7% from September 2025 but down 5.6% from August 2026.
A mixed month across the three casinos
The growth wasn't even across operators. MotorCity posted the strongest year-over-year gain, with table-game and slot revenue up 12.7% to $32.6 million, while MGM Grand Detroit rose 6.5% to $48.84 million. Hollywood Casino at Greektown was the outlier, falling 8.8% year over year to $21.34 million. By market share, MGM held 47% of the three casinos' combined revenue, MotorCity 32%, and Hollywood Casino 21%. Year to date through September, combined table-game and slot revenue is up 2.3% from the same period in 2025.
Sports betting and taxes
Retail sports betting at the three Detroit casinos generated $784,762 in gross receipts on $12.39 million in handle for September, with qualified adjusted gross receipts up 3.0% year over year but down 10.9% from August. MotorCity led that category with $602,755 in qualified receipts, followed by Hollywood Casino at $215,281; MGM's retail sportsbook posted a negative figure for the month. The three casinos paid $8.3 million in state gaming taxes for September, up from $8.0 million a year earlier, plus $12.7 million in wagering taxes and development-agreement payments to the City of Detroit.
Why it matters
Monthly MGCB releases are the most direct public read on how Detroit's commercial casino market is performing, and the gap between MotorCity's double-digit growth and Hollywood Casino's decline is a reminder that statewide or citywide totals can mask meaningfully different trends property by property.
