BetMGM Brings Live-Streamed Slot Machines to New Jersey
Awager, a real-money gaming unit of slot manufacturer Aristocrat, has partnered with BetMGM to bring live-streamed physical slot machines to online players in New Jersey. The offering went live this week for both BetMGM and Borgata Online customers, giving players a way to remotely access and play actual cabinet hardware rather than a purely digital, RNG-based version of the game.
How it works
Instead of simulating a slot machine's math in software, the Awager system streams live 4K video of a real, physical slot cabinet housed in a regulated studio environment, letting an online player operate it remotely in something closer to real time. Aristocrat Chief Strategy Officer Superna Kalle described the goal as delivering "a truly authentic casino experience straight to players' devices," pitching it as a middle ground between the convenience of online play and the feel of a physical casino floor.
The partnership was announced August 13 and launched on BetMGM's New Jersey platform on August 20, following earlier reporting from Aristocrat and BetMGM. It's a separate approach from BetMGM's existing digital slot library, which runs standard RNG software versions of licensed titles rather than a live feed from physical hardware.
Why it matters
Live-streamed physical equipment is a well-established model in table games — live dealer blackjack and roulette have been standard offerings at regulated US online casinos for years — but applying the same streaming approach to slot machines is a newer wrinkle for the industry. For players, it's another option alongside standard digital slots and live dealer tables, currently limited to the New Jersey market where both BetMGM and Borgata operate online casino licenses. New Jersey remains one of a small number of states with a legal, regulated online casino market, so the offering isn't available to players outside that state's borders regardless of which BetMGM product they use.
